5 Best YouTube Workout Channels

I really hate the gym. I have, over the years, belonged to many different gyms, all of which, apart from York Hall in Bethnal Green, which was pay-as-you-go, were a complete waste of money. I would pay the money and never go, just like every other chump.

So, I started using workout DVDs. Which are brilliant. But they’re generally too long for me to do in the morning, and because they’re quite expensive, I only have a few, and end up being very bored of them very quickly.

I need quick 15 minute workouts for weekday mornings, which I then try to supplement with a longer workout at the weekend. YouTube videos are absolutely perfect for this. There is SO much variety out there, and I’m pretty sure you can find an exercise video channel to suit whatever you are trying to do, fitness wise, but these are my favourites.

1. Lionsgate BeFit

A really fantastic array of videos here. Lionsgate release a lot of the DVDs I’ve done over the years, and I think they’re doing something really interesting with their older content – releasing it on to YouTube with advertising support. So they’ve got Jillian Michaels and Jane Fonda as well as content created specifically for YouTube. I really love the variety you get from this channel, although sometimes you can find a real dud of a video. My favourite video is definitely the hardcore yoga video from Jillian Michaels:

2. DoYouYoga

This 30 day yoga challenge has long since ended, but Erin Motz’s short yoga videos are really fantastic and I keep returning to them again and again. I love her video for the neck and back. Great if you’re feeling a bit stiff.

3. FitSugar

Such a fun and energetic series of videos. I really like the hosts on this. They are so perky. The videos are mostly around 10-15 minutes, but there are also some longer ones. The fun thing about FitSugar is that they often have guest hosts teaching the latest faddy exercise routine. Which is how I found myself doing this hilarious Buti workout. Hilarious because I kept falling over, but actually it was quite a good workout…

4. LiveStrongWoman’s Pilates Bootcamp

I’ve only discovered the LiveStrongWoman channel through Cassey Ho’s Pilates Bootcamp, so can’t vouch for any of the other videos, but I love the pilates videos, so think I need to start investigating some of the other videos on the channel. I particularly like this arm workout. It starts off easy but gets so hard so quick!

5. Blogilates

When I started watching the videos on this channel, I thought I’d really hate it, as the levels of enthusiasm from the host are bordering on the extreme, and might be a bit much for an early morning workout. But actually, I have found that I really like her and the workouts are awesome. You know when you do an ab workout that works you so hard it makes you feel almost like your ribs are bruised? That.

    Oooh I’ve seen Blogilates but none of the others so will check them out. She is surprisingly likeable even with her extreme enthusiasm! I have a few DVDs I like but they’re mostly too long for before work, I was considering the Davina Fit in 15 but I’ll take a lot at these first
