A little bit of weekend reading

A little bit of weekend reading

  1. It’s April Fools’ Day! I love seeing all the fake headlines that pop up every year on this day, so I’m looking for some good ones today. Have you spotted any yet?
  2. I started and finished The Fire Child for work. It’s the new book by the author of The Ice Twins and it’s SO CREEPY. I met some NCT friends at the pub on Wednesday night and was a bit early, so I started reading the final chapters. I was about 97% of the way through this when the first friend arrived and I was so glad to see her but also SO annoyed because I really wanted to finish it!
  3. Unsurprisingly, I am 94% nerd.
  4. Very sad to hear about the passing of Zaha Hadid. I loved the design she did for this school in Brixton. A very talented and inspirational woman.
  5. I love the look of this broccoli pesto. I’m constantly trying to get Theo to eat more vegetables, so this could be a good bet (if he’ll eat any of it!) (Side note: I have been doing baby-led weaning, as I was led to believe I’d have a less fussy baby. Not true!)
  6. Speaking of sneaking veggies into baby food – this made me laugh so much.
  7. We don’t really have any ‘ICT’ toys at home. I’d say it’s because of all the worthy reasons in this article, but mainly it’s because Jesus, those toys are so annoying! That said, I do also find the idea of a toy that connects to the internet and responds directly to your child’s questions quite disturbing. I don’t really think it’s at ‘Chucky’ level, as the article suggests, but disturbing nonetheless.
  8. Are you a grammar pedant? I definitely am. Peter’s use of apostrophes is atrocious and it drives me crazy…
  9. I loved this podcast between Jen Carrington and Sara Tasker. Sara’s photographs are so beautiful, and always tell a great story (particularly her Me and Luke Skywalker series!), so it was interesting to hear from her.
  10. I shared the 6 little black dresses on my wishlist earlier this week. Update: I bought this one – I found a discount on the internet, and figured it was the most versatile.
