I’m not planning to do as many workouts this week as I’ve been doing a LOT of walking. At this time of year, it’s just great to get outside and get into the fresh air. Theo has enjoyed his first picnics and many, many walks in the fresh air, looking up at the trees and new leaves above his head! It’s so lovely! But I have fit in a couple of video workouts including…Follow BeNourishd
So, this is a new series on the blog. Just a super short thing I’ll try and post each week, showing the workout videos that I’ve done during the week here, rather than including them in my ‘On my mind’ posts. If you’re looking for inspiration, you can get some here or follow me on Pinterest.
I also did the 15 minute Intermediate Strength workout in the Yoga Studio app.

So, I’ve written about this before, but it’s still there, so I’ll say it again: Back pain in pregnancy sucks! Sheesh! It hurts all through my back and my butt and my legs and my groin! Luckily, yoga really helps to manage the pain. I try to do a couple of these videos a week, and really notice the difference when I do them.
1) Prenatal Yoga with Lara Dutta – this is a 30 minute work out and is probably my favourite. It just feels SO GOOD.
2) Yoga strength with PopSugar
3) Body talk daily’s pregnancy yoga
4) Another video from Body talk daily – actually this whole series from them is great!
5) Popsugar’s stretch yoga video. Ahhhhhhh.
I have found it quite hard to find good, short videos. I don’t have time in the mornings to do more than about 10-15 minutes (although I suppose this will change when I go on maternity leave!). Do you have any good videos? I’ve been doing these a fair bit, so any more are very welcome!
PS: I realised when I was choosing a photo for this post that I’ve been taking a lot of office bathroom bump selfies, but no other pregnancy bump photos! I think I might need to make a bit more of an effort, or maybe even get some taken! It seems a shame not to have some kind of beautiful photo of this time in my life – I do find my body pretty crazy amazing at the minute. I’m growing a person! WHAT!?Follow BeNourishd
Yep, that’s me at 17 weeks pregnant. You might not see it but I do. Well, I feel it – none of my clothes fit anymore and I’ve officially had to move over to the ‘unzipped trousers with a band over the top’ look. I’m tightening my stomach muscles in that photo, too. Might as well while I still have them, right? I have to say, it’s been nice doing weekly photos – I didn’t realise how fit I had become before until I started taking them. My week 8 is amazing. I have (had) abs! Wow. Who knew?
In terms of exercise, the baby has been putting some pressure on my sciatic nerve, so a lot of the exercise I have been doing until now is around stretching out my back – simple and basic stretches that my chiropractor recommended. But now that I have a bit more energy, I am going to introduce some videos back into my routine. I’m obviously not concerned about having a six pack anymore, those days are gone (for now), but it’ll be good for me and the baby to stay fit and healthy, especially since I seem to need cake or donuts on a daily basis now – what’s that all about?
Here are some pregnancy workouts for the second trimester – two that I’ve done and loved (the first two), and one I haven’t tried yet. They actually seem like nice low impact exercises for anyone, regardless of if you have a baby on board, so worth looking at if you’re looking for something that doesn’t make you lose your breath!Follow BeNourishd
So, I have trouble fitting in workouts. I walk a lot – about forty minutes a day at least just as part of my commute to and from work, and I usually go for a 20-30 minute walk at lunch as well. But I also try really hard to find time a few times a week to do some specific exercises – to tone my muscles or get my heart really pumping or relax with a yoga routine. I don’t get home until 7 or later most nights, by which time I am starving, so I work out in the mornings for 10-15 minutes before my shower. This does mean that I have to force myself out of bed, which isn’t generally the easiest thing in the world to do! But when I manage it, even just that short amount of time makes such a difference to my day, and, I think, to my health. So, without further ado, here are 5 fast workouts I’ve been enjoying lately:
Yoga in 30 minutes:
Stretching in 20 minutes:
Total body workout in under 20 minutes:
Arms and abs in under 15 minutes:
Arms in 10 minutes:
PS: If you follow me on Instagram, you might remember these new shoes. Oooo they are so pretty, but ohhhh can you see the welt they made on my left foot? NOT nice! Might need to give them a few weeks before wearing again…Follow BeNourishd
I really hate the gym. I have, over the years, belonged to many different gyms, all of which, apart from York Hall in Bethnal Green, which was pay-as-you-go, were a complete waste of money. I would pay the money and never go, just like every other chump.
So, I started using workout DVDs. Which are brilliant. But they’re generally too long for me to do in the morning, and because they’re quite expensive, I only have a few, and end up being very bored of them very quickly.
I need quick 15 minute workouts for weekday mornings, which I then try to supplement with a longer workout at the weekend. YouTube videos are absolutely perfect for this. There is SO much variety out there, and I’m pretty sure you can find an exercise video channel to suit whatever you are trying to do, fitness wise, but these are my favourites.
1. Lionsgate BeFit
A really fantastic array of videos here. Lionsgate release a lot of the DVDs I’ve done over the years, and I think they’re doing something really interesting with their older content – releasing it on to YouTube with advertising support. So they’ve got Jillian Michaels and Jane Fonda as well as content created specifically for YouTube. I really love the variety you get from this channel, although sometimes you can find a real dud of a video. My favourite video is definitely the hardcore yoga video from Jillian Michaels:
This 30 day yoga challenge has long since ended, but Erin Motz’s short yoga videos are really fantastic and I keep returning to them again and again. I love her video for the neck and back. Great if you’re feeling a bit stiff.
Such a fun and energetic series of videos. I really like the hosts on this. They are so perky. The videos are mostly around 10-15 minutes, but there are also some longer ones. The fun thing about FitSugar is that they often have guest hosts teaching the latest faddy exercise routine. Which is how I found myself doing this hilarious Buti workout. Hilarious because I kept falling over, but actually it was quite a good workout…
4. LiveStrongWoman’s Pilates Bootcamp
I’ve only discovered the LiveStrongWoman channel through Cassey Ho’s Pilates Bootcamp, so can’t vouch for any of the other videos, but I love the pilates videos, so think I need to start investigating some of the other videos on the channel. I particularly like this arm workout. It starts off easy but gets so hard so quick!
When I started watching the videos on this channel, I thought I’d really hate it, as the levels of enthusiasm from the host are bordering on the extreme, and might be a bit much for an early morning workout. But actually, I have found that I really like her and the workouts are awesome. You know when you do an ab workout that works you so hard it makes you feel almost like your ribs are bruised? That.
So, those are my top 5! Do you have any favourite YouTube workout channels? Please share them with me – I’m always looking for something new!Follow BeNourishd
