Peter and I have finally finished painting Theo’s nursery, and putting some bits of furniture – the cot, a table, a chest of drawers and an armchair. Apart from the cot, all the furniture is stuff we’ve had for a while, which is finding a new life in the nursery. It’s was so satisfying to see it all come together and exciting to imagine our little boy growing up in this room. But despite the bright turquoise walls, which I am so happy with, it still feels a bit undecorated!
I’ve been on Pinterest (of course), and have been pulling together my nursery wishlist. It’ll be a little while yet before he moves in, so we’ve got a bit of time to get it ready (and to be honest, I’m not sure he’ll notice if it’s not 100% by the time he goes in there…), but the top 5 things I’d love to have are…
1: These shelves. They are crazy expensive, so I don’t think they’re going to be a fixture any time soon, but they look so cool! Maybe worth a DIY project? With a few pieces of mdf and our circular saw, we should be able to knock some up in a weekend, right?
2. ROBOT CUSHIONS! No explanation needed! These are awesome.
3. A cloud nightlight. Such a cute idea. And it’s kind of pricey, but could probably be used throughout the child’s life (and then move in to mum and dad’s room!).
In fact, I can see it fitting in just perfectly with these shelves [picture source]
4. If the DIY’d shelves don’t work out (likely), I think we’ll be installing these IKEA Ribba picture shelves for Theo’s books. Working in publishing, and having two friends who work in kids’ publishing, I’ve already got a massive bag full of books and I’m pretty sure that’s just going to grow! [Picture source]
5. A reading nook! You could have the cloud light and the pretty asymmetrical shelf and all the books and the robot cushion all in this one spot! Sadly, with the table and the chest of drawers and the cot and the chair, we don’t really have space for this, but maybe one day (or in another room!)… [picture source]
Have you seen any cool nursery furniture? Is there anything you got for your child, or anything your friends had for their kids, that you think is an essential? What do I need?
