Finished… Elizabeth is Missing. So good! But man, so sad. I felt so sad for Maud, the main character, the whole time. I really don’t want to get Alzheimer’s or dementia when I get old, and so so hope neither of my parents develop them.
Reading… The Girl on the Train. I’m a sucker for a book everyone on Twitter is talking about, and this is one of those books. I’ve just started it, so we’ll see how I get on. What I’d really LOVE to be reading is a proof of the new Kate Atkinson – it looks so good and I absolutely love her writing. If anyone at Transworld is reading this, please send me a copy, pretty please!
Excited for… spring! It’s so nice to see bulbs start shooting out of the earth. At the weekend we saw an open daffodil in the park! It’s one of my favourite times of the year when the spring flowers come out. It also means that it’s getting close to the time when I won’t have to stuff Theodore into a snow suit every time I leave the house. He loves being in it, and falls asleep straight away, but then whenever we go indoors I have to take him out of it in case he over heats, and he really does NOT appreciate that!
Looking for… good, gentle workout videos I can do in 10/15 minutes when T is asleep. I need to start trawling YouTube. When I’ve found some good ones, I’ll put together a post about them.
Last week I was looking for good baby clothes. I found some really cute stuff in Gap, and some surprisingly nice stuff in Boots! Thanks to Bex for the recommendation (I saw one of her adorable twins wearing something from there!)
Thinking about… trendy food. I am always reading food and lifestyle blogs (especially during the night feeds!) and sometimes it feels as though I’m reading the same posts on different people’s blogs! Does anyone else feel that sometimes it seems as though “super foods” come out of nowhere and suddenly dominate conversation, with photos cropping up more and more of instagram.
Lately the things I’ve spotted time and again are bone broth, coconut oil and juicing. I don’t quite understand how these things come out of nowhere and just explode! Juicing I can understand, because I’m partial to a quickly whizzed up juice myself. And I’m becoming a convert to coconut oil for cosmetic purposes, if not for cooking. But bone broth? You mean meat stock? I appreciate that it is cooked for a longer time than traditional stock, but… That appears to be the only difference! And people are paying $5 for a bowl of it! Stock that costs literally pennies to make. It reminds me of that old fairy tale, The Emperor’s New Clothes.
It’s not that I DON’T think that bone broth is great. I don’t know if it’s a miracle food, but I love homemade stock and think it makes a huge difference to flavour when you cook with it. But it feels like people become a bit sort of sheep-like about these trends. And I totally include myself in that! I mean, I bought coconut oil after reading so many ‘1000 life changing uses for coconut oil!’ posts I couldn’t help myself. And back in the day, I definitely fell for kale chips. But how does that happen? Where do these trends come from?
It’s like peonies. How many bloggers posted photo after photo of peonies when they were in season. I mean, I love peonies as much as the next person, but other flowers are pretty too!
Anyway. That’s my mini food rant… Does anyone else notice these things? What have you seen popping up on blog after blog lately?Follow BeNourishd
